Gender dysphoria

Gender dysphoria is a term that describes a sense of unease or dissatisfaction that a person may have about their biological sex. This sense of unease can have far-reaching consequences for someone’s identity.

In short

  • Because of an increase in medical technologies and treatments people can choose for transition, with hormones and sex reassignment surgery.
  • The number of people that asks for transgender care grew over years. More girls than boys ask for treatment and the age of people who seek help lowers over time.
  • Medical treatment should aim at the improvement of the situation, balancing between the right diagnosis, doing good, and doing no harm. In the case of physical gender transition, this raises medical ethical dilemmas.
  • God is the Creator of life and gives us life. We may fight suffering and disease, but not at any cost.
